They HATE the color red and will aggressively attack it with a incredible vengeance like a ragging bull.... Fished a local pond with my 4wt and decided to try out some of the Fly Swap flies...Well since I was fishing light weight, I thought I'd try Flytackle vintage pan fish spinner we got during the fly swap... I have to be honest... I have never fly fished with a spinner, never gave it much thought...well, Holy Cow!!!! first cast, 2 strips of the fly line BAM!!! let me tell you, some very large belligerent bluegills let me know right away they we not happy with this fly and CRUSHED IT. I tried to take some pictures but my camera is on the blitz again and need to replace it very soon... caught Gills, Crappie Yellow Perch, and Bass...A Grand Slam on a vintage style of fly... I was amazed at the ferocity of the way these fish hit this fly...The rod tip snapped into a 90 degree angle when they hit it
9" bluegills pulled me around in circles in my flloattube... Caught about 20+ bluegills or more... lost count actually...couldn't keep the fly in
the water
Crappie ain't too fond of the color red either...caught 6-8 of these 10" pugnacious pan fish
Several 12" Yellow perch also let it be known red was their favorite color also...
This 1 1/2 pound bass gave the vintage spinner a talking too also... saying "take me to your leader!!!"
Great Fly choice and thanks for sharing Flytackle!... vintage spinners have definitely special spot in my fly box....
