Crappie Here, Crappie There, Crappie every where.... |

Yesterday, I stopped to put the belly boat in at a local pond, to try my luck... Jeffsod had given me some neat looking Muddler Minnows #6-8 hook, he received
from a Larry Dahlberg pattern with a lot of gold flash in them, they just look toooooo good not toss on a 4 wt... WOW!!! started casting along the shoreline
and cast it by a submerged tree top and caught about 3 dozen 10+ inch Black crappie as fast as I could put the fly in the water...plus I missed as many fish as
I hooked into... caught some nice yellow perch and Bull Gills also...Action was fast and furious....would cast the Muddler out, stripped the line 2-3 time to
dive and then let it float for 3 seconds on top.... BAM!! Crappie two a time would jump clear out of the water and crush onto the fly, they were fighting over
the muddler.... Wish I had a video camera... Crappie must be spawning now and congregated in tight schools... I underestimated the Muddlers potetntial, they
are absolutely great flies....and produce very well... If you have local pond with Crappie in it; this is fine fly rod fishing time of the year on a light
3-4wt fly rod... Give it a try ...this is not my personal picture, my computer is in the shop, but it is very close to what I caught except the crappie had a
Muddler Minnow hanging out of it's mouth Thanks Jeff for turning me on to a hot fly!!1

Calicoes are among my favorite fish to catch on the fly. I think they are one of the prettiest fish in the pond. Sounds like you had a blast, John.

Good to hear those flies are working out for ya Gillbuster! That fly is the Flashdancer for anyone interested. I bought a couple and then tied some up using the store bought ones for reference. Looking online today the shop I bought them at no longer has them listed. The fly was originated by Larry Dahlberg. |

The crappie bite is on in Ohio, too! | #5 | ||

White crappie for the most part. The only way to tell them apart is by the spines on the dorsal fin - 5 or 6 + black and 6 or 7 = white. Color is not an
indicator, but the water type is. Black crappie need shallow, weedy lakes with less turbidity.
I took my dog, Gracie. She's my favorite fishing partner...
I fished a couple of 2 wt rods - a St. Croix Imperial, which is just amazing - and
A Dave Redington South Fork in glass. Both are 6' rods. They bend pretty...
and I caught a lot of them - average was 8"
