A few months ago I took the advise of two of you guys and obtained a Fenwick 6' 5wgt. I've got to tell ya this has been "my ride". It is the "woodstream" model and it is very whippy but I have been able to tame it.
My biggest thrill with this rod is the 16" smally I caught in Lake Sunapee, NH. It took a good 4 + minutes to land it, once in the net it threw the fly, which was a brown ant. I have a picture but I don't know how to send it in this program.
I just picked up a Fenwick Fenglass 7'6" 5wgt, hope to make friends with it this weekend. If it reacts the way the 6 footer does, what to do with my graphite rods, woe is me.
I injured my upper back last February and have afraid to use my canoe so... I got a float tube for tranportation.
Between Fenwick and the float tube What a rush! Thank you for your input.

That's great!! Glass and smallmouths. Doesn't get any better than that. Top it off with the float tube and you have a winning combination. Very nice. I have never actually fished Lake Sunapee only sailed on it frozen. But it sure is a beautiful lake!!!

We were up there for a week, rented a boat house right on/in the lake. The lake is infested with Rock Bass which was a blast to catch on a fly rod. They were going to have a Rock Bass tournament with a free entry fee. The objective was quantity not quality. Unfortunately it was the following week.

I have a Fenwick FF755 (7'6" 5wt). Mine has the cork lined uplocking seat. I've paired it with a vintage Bronson Royalist 370 click-pawl reel. It's a creek fishing monster! Little scarppy creek bass....big bull gills.......2 pound catfish....all make the rod flex into the butt. I love it.

Like you I've got to come to grips with what to do with my graphite rods!!!

I am indebted to Alec and Randy, they turned me on to these rods when I inquired about an Fenwick 8 1/2' 6wgt. They suggested I stay away from the 8 1/2 and look for a 7 1/2 or 6' in a 5 weight. I got the 6 first, what a blast with any and all size fish! You are correct about the rush when fighting the fish and having the rod flex from the tip to the butt.
I just picked up the 7 1/2 this week and will use it today for the first time. I will hang on to the graphites, for a little while anyway.

Master Guide

I'm with you on glass. I'll stick with graphite for salt water, but I'm loving the feel and pace of fishing fresh water with glass. No offense to my graphite-using bretheren, it's just a matter of personal preference with me. Since switching, I've landed my two biggest fly rod LMBs on glass, and it was an absolute blast!
