another lake in NYC |

|
this past thursday i fished a lake, Baisley lake in Baisley Park in Queens. the last time i had been to this park I was about 12 years old. Baisley lake is a
real lake which existed during the time when mammoths roamed New York. when the city dredged this lake in 1912 the remains of the original wooly bugger were
found. what makes this lake special is the fact that it is home to both LM &SM bass. there are perch, BGs, bullheads, channal catfish and carp in the
lake as well.

That is cool stuff Bill - I wonder if Wooly Mammoth hair makes good dubbing?

Bill---when you fish this type of lake, is it basically shore fishing---what is the structure at the bottom of the pictures? Nice bg.

there is no wading in NYC lakes. This is a natural lake & is about 18' feet deep. we fish from the shore . there are lots of lily pads for the bass
& smaller fish. I'm standing on a deck that lines the east side of the lake for about 100 feet; other than that the shore line is normal. the lake is
catch and release. the fish are wild not stockies.

Just watch your back-cast or you might snag the LIRR and end up getting dragged down the rails on your heels.
Mike (I have no idea if the LIRR goes anywhere near there, but the image was kind of amusing to me when I thought of it.) |

the LIRR does stop near by. but i've been trying to get fly fishers here to learn to roll cast or spey cast so that they do not hook something. you'd
be surprised at how many people will walk up behind you as you being to back cast so that they can get a closer look.

By the way, I just want to once again say how much I enjoy your posts, Bill. Honestly, looking at the photos you post and the stories, I think your
contributions are among my favorites here. I am beyond impressed with the opportunties you have and take advantage of in the middle of the country's
biggest metropolitan environment. I'm a country bumpkin who doesn't much relish his occasional city incusions (though I do LOVE visiting NYC when
I've had the chance), but your posts remind me that nature is a resilient force that, if we do the right thing, can flourish amid the concrete and
ashphalt.

I've always enjoyed urban angling destinations-wherever they might be.
