Just picked up a Eagle Claw Feather Light 7' for a 5/6 line weight at Wal-Mart. It casts great and is an incredible bargain. I had a small Martin reel with
line and backing on it that I pickes up at a fishing show. The whole thing balances great and cast a ton. I think that this will be my trunk of the car outfit,
perfect for small streams and panfish.

Congrats. No experience with this particular rod but I'm constantly amazed these days in the performance and quality of "department store " rods.
Back just 10-15 years ago, it would have cost you $100 -$250 to get the performance and "feel" that you get in a $25-$100 rod today. This is one
case where market intervention from the Chineese and Koreans was a good thing.. FWIW, I used to build almost all my own rods and even did it commercially for
a while. Those days are done. It's just not worth the cost and effort when you can buy a nice spinning rod for $20 and a Sweet fly rod ( with lifetime
warrenty) for $75!
BTW: Nice choice for a truck rod. The shorter length will make it more adaptable to tight shorebound angling and a WF6 should toss bugs and flies right up into #2 with ease. You can do allot with a rod like that. Enjoy!

It was on sale for $9. at Wal-Mart. How can you beat that? They even had some spinning rods for sale at $5. each. It was all I could do not to load up on
them. As it is I bought 2 of the Eagle Claw fly rods.

Great find. Enjoy. BTW, I still have a 7.5' 5 wt EC fly rod that i bought back in the mid 80's. It was one of my firt true graphite rods and it cast like a line cannon ( despite having looked like it was assembled by a blind drunk.) It's still in my "keeper" pile and has remained in the inventory when many others ( including some big name /big $ rods)were sold off. |
