That old article makes me feel good all over. That's about a year or two after I started fly fishing with a level line on a $2.00 Pfleuger Progress reel
and a $3.95 J.C. Higgins rod.. Still have'm and get that whippy old outfit on the water once in a while when I want to be humbled. Even through the
filter of time I don't think my fish back then averaged weighing but about 10% of what the lunkers mentioned in in that paper went. Dan

Great Article AJ...it is absolutely wonderful to bring back article of the golden age of bass bugging...fly fishing with patience and persistence... I will
heed his advice and hopefully I can catch half the size fish your old friend caught... I went to Maine some time back and pick up some 1950's Field and
Stream/Sports Afield Magazines from a flea market. Great old time articles...

excellent article; thanks for sharing; brings back memories of my Dad bass buggin . He would talk to the bass; at the time i thought he might be a little
crazy, (he was a little wierd for a college professor) He would make the cast; utter, "perfect" under his breath, then say things like:
" come on now Big boy; I know you are wanting it; easy now" and the bug would just set on the water, rocking with the wind ripples. When the bass would strike it always scared me, kinda like a covey rise......and dad would laugh and talk to it til he got it in. He would tell it thank you and release it. Back then, I always wanted to keep it and he would say, "we don't eat bass"; theyre too much fun to catch. He would keep brim and crappie, but he rarely ever brought bass home to eat. He loved to catch a bass on a bass bug; I inherited those same genes. Thanks for the article-p- |

I fished with a young guide for Striped Bass. His name Captain Corey Petriazek. He would say "Show us the love". Sure enough I knew we have a bass
strike.
