Actually, I go into the prison here in Shirley on Sunday night to lead a bible study, so I can't get away. Sent John some pictures, but they may not have reached him in time as I just got his email today. Sorry guys.

I hope someone tied up some of those beautiful flies I invented the last time. Frank has the recipe...

Success at Bears Den Expo

What a great turnout at the Bears Den fly fishing expo in Taunton on Sunday. There was a tremendous interest from visiting folks about our warm water Fly Fishing group. We went thru over 100 flyers in which folks who were going to look into The Bass Pond website. Thanks guys for all the submitted pictures the slide show was a outstanding hit. People were really impress with the fishing scenery, fish caught & quality of the photography. The displays, slideshow and flies was an impressive stand out for The Bass Pond. Alec as always, did an outstanding job with his classic bass fly demonstration. really captured the eye of many vendors and visitors with his beautiful flies. It was great to get together with Jeffsod, Flytackle, Bulletnose, Letort, B52 & FloatttubeMike.... fishing plans are in the works for this summer. Also nice to see Dick Empie who visited our booth and talk to us about his Goldie, we told him about the tremendous luck our group has had with his famous fly. I have pictures in which I will post later, photobucket in offline this morning. Thanks, Alec for all the support as always, your the man! Thanks guys again, couldn't make the Bass Pond a hit without all your help... will post pictures later

Gillbuster and Flytackle - Thank you for taking the time to talk to me and show me some of your flies. Really excited about fly fishing this year. It will be my first. Want to especially thank you gillbuster for taking the time to show me the popper. You were right in the middle of another fly(I believe a squirrel?). You hurried thru it and gave me a quick lesson in tying the poppers. Diving in with both feet. Need to get some tying equipment so I can start on my own collection of Bass and Panfish flies. Looking forward to possibly hooking up with you guys some time this year. Please send me information on how I might join the Bass Pond. OH and DO I HAVE SOME RECIPES FOR THE Barbeque. Please keep me posted!

I haven't posted for a long time, but I could not miss this chance to thank John for the OUTSTANDING job he did with STS table at the Bear's Den show. Our table out-shined many of the others. Thanks, John, well done!
Let's not forget Alec for pulling in so many people with his excellent "attractor" flies.

Wow, You guys had a great table and display! What a great way to spend a winters day.

Sorry Spinny, If you had seen the 6-7 b. LM Bass I lost last summer fishing with Alec, not to mention the biggest Brown Trout I ever hooked and.... lost in Gull Pond (also witnessed by Alec) you'd know I was only teasing you

It's okay, Michael. I let the big stripers off the line, but never the big LMBs. Not sure if I got my photos to him on time, but if John had my two brutes from the last two years in the slide show, you'd be eating your heart out. If you want to see what a 6+ lb bass looks like, just let me know.

Belovebic Welcome aboard!... Once you find our website, your part of the Bass Pond family. Great to meet you yesterday and we truely admired your enthusiasm. Start small with the fly tying and enjoy the fun of catching fish with your own tied flies. You can't go wrong with starting out tying poppers. If you visit the Tackle section of the website, watch Cornmuse's website on tying. He is a master fly tier and you will learn a lot from him. Before you know it, you will be whipping up flies like nothing. Let us know when your fishing, what yo are catching and post your adventures... we all love to hear them. Also let us know when your available to go fishing and maybe we can buddy up and try some local ponds We are going to have a great gathering at Myles Standish State Park (Plymouth) in June and be thrilled to have you join us and taste some of your BBQ. Once again read some of our posting and welcome aboard.

Yep. Both hit poppers fished up tight to the lily pads. The Grove Pond fish (float tube) was one of those deals where the fish moved as soon as the fly hit the water. Knew it was coming from the swirl and wake before it sucked the thing down with a decent splash. The Rohunta fish (canoe) took me by surprise as the fishing had been slow all day. I pulled out a couple nice pickerel and some 'gills, but nothing else. Then the damsel flies started coming off the water and the action picked up. He took the popper from a seam in the weeds (Rohunta is thick with vegetation) and nearly wrapped the rod around the canoe's gunwale. Both fish taken with my Fenwick #6.

If anyone wants to fish Rohunta this year, give me a shout. The bluegill are outstanding and there are some real pigs in that water. I found out that they opened the dam a few years ago and lost a lot of fish, but it seems those at the top of the food chain that remained have benefitted from a lot of forage and little competition. I'll post a photo of the freak pickerel I caught as well as some of the bluegills. It really is a neat place to fish.

How did the slide show go?
Cameron I can't speak for John but I thought the slide show was a great success. John put together a very professional spread at the Bears Den show. Of course I am partly biased about the slide show since a good bunch of the photos were mine
