I've hesitated posting this because sadly it nicked a gill. Took the photo and then released with heavy heart and slight hope that it might survive. She was taken in a 10 acre pond behind our deer camp. Nobody else fishes there because it's remote, bad snakey, and a hassel to drag a boat in. I could always depend on a few 12" stunted buck bass on a slow afternoon during early deer season....until this.
You can see the 1" increment 18" witness ruler I keep taped to the bottom of the canoe behind it. I think it went at least 26"+ and was plenty girthy but don't know how to accurately estimate the weight. These bigger ones get distorted and are almost grotesque. I've caught a few that were weighed in the 4-6 pound range over the years but have not ever been around one like this. Can anybody help give a guess with a formula or something?
She took my homemade gray/black/white Dahlburg on a 7 wt. Scott "Bass" model I bought about 15 years ago. The reel is a big old Shakespear multiplier lined with a bass taper. No jumps but it pulled the Oldtown around at will for a bit. Just wanted to share a nice Arkansas bass with some of you winterbound Yanks.
