A fun Question, how about this summers favorites, I seem to change em up each summer now that I have rediscovered glass. First Im retired, I simply walk down to the lake just about every morning at dawn and fish a couple of hours, I will be doing that in just about 2 more hours. My walk down is about a mile, and I usually fish a mile or two either up the river coarse or down (this is a man made lake and the old river coarse runs along my side of the west bank of the now lake). Up river about 3/4 mile is an old graveyard, it used to be for the town of Kernville before the area was flooded, the graveyard being on the hill above town. Now its alot closer of course. Just down from the graveyard is an area great for some big Crappie although there are several such on my side of the lake. Walking south a couple of miles is another such area, plus if I want to drive a couple of miles further south there are two great areas for bass and crappie.
This summer has been alot of fun playing with several Phillipson rods Ive managed to aquire, and so saying my favorite thus far is a Phillipson Johnson Profile 800 series 8F76, its 7ft 6in and rated a 6wt.
Ive been fishing it all summer with a Marryat MR 8A and using an Orvis WF6F Bonefish wonderline, for those not familiar with the line, its basically a Bass taper. Ive got it rigged with a couple of leader/tippet combinations with fly's, poppers and bugs ready to go, I have glued a very small metal fiction clip into the end of the flyline, about the size of the eye of a medium needle, it adds no weight and I can change my leader/tippet/fly sets in seconds. For the occasional Lake trout that stop by I have some of Gillbuster's Goldies, they work great for the Crappie as well, for those big bass that come around I have one set up with a nice medium sized popper, and still another with bugs.
While Ive not hooked any of the really big Bass here (a few weeks ago a fellow from one of my spots brought in a new lake record of 11.25 pounds) I have caught and released several in the 3-5 pound sizes and some really nice big crappie in the 2-3 pound size that are great eating. Fishing the old river coarse sometimes brings in a nice trout as well. In any case this years 6wt Phillipson has been my rod of choice, its light, and just plain fun to fish.

Oh that little rod is the top one in my ID, but with the reel from the lower rod, which by the way is another Phillipson Johnson Profile, but a 6F90, a 600 series 9ft 6wt which was just a little too long for what I need fishing along the banks of the lake and river coarse.
